The Lavazza Tiny is a product of Lavazza A MODO MIO product line. According to Seidl, the design was inspired by a series of different products, including motorbikes and helmets. The central crest gives visual structure to the main shell, creating an appealing and unique design.
What sets the Lavazza Tiny apart from other espresso machines is its simplicity and joyful Mediterranean design. It celebrates colours and applies Lavazza’s design language with high-quality surfacing and detailing. The main shell, made from one piece, features soft but precisely controlled surfaces. The central crest adds visual structure, and the frontal pattern repeats the horizontal theme.
The espresso machine is made using injection molding (ABS/SAN), a testament to the designer's commitment to quality and durability. The machine measures 120 mm / 290mm / 246 and weighs 2.7 kg, making it a compact and lightweight addition to any kitchen.
The Lavazza Tiny is not just about aesthetics; it's also about functionality. The machine is easy to use - the stop&go button, emphasized visually by a coloured ring, lets users choose how much coffee they want. With just one touch, users can enjoy a perfect cup of coffee in seconds.
The design process, which took place in Turin, Italy, involved conceptual and formal research, 3D modeling, mock-ups, and prototyping. Despite the challenge of creating a small appliance with a lot of personality in a short development time, Seidl and his team, including Angelica Rella and Altro Modo Design, were able to deliver a product that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and user-friendly.
The Lavazza Tiny's recognition in the A' Home Appliances Design Award is a testament to Seidl's innovative approach to design. The Platinum A' Design Award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing. It is awarded to designs that advance the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology, exhibiting transcendent excellence and making the world a better place.
